Parliament Speaker Kadri Wessel spoke by telephone today with Raul Teittelbaum, a Holocaust survivor born in Prizren.
Wessel said Teittelbaum has a lot of respect for Kosovo, and is happy to accept the invitation to visit. This is because citizens of Kosovo during World War II have saved many Jews from Nazi persecution.
This is Wessel's full post:
Among the six Holocaust survivors, selected this year for the opening of the memorial ceremony, Yad Vashem, his six million victims, was Raul Teitelbaum, a Prizren-born Jewish.
I talked to him on the phone today. Excited, he thanked me and expressed respect and love for our country. Mr. Teitel was invited to visit Kosovo, and she gladly accepted the invitation.
We are descendants of men and women, who in the worst days for Jews during World War II opened their doors and hearts to shelter and protect the Jews who fled from Nazi persecution.
Like them, we today agree with the suffering of Holocaust victims.
We're proud of the heroism shown to us back then, as well as the friendship of our two peoples that they've shown us.
