Russia has accused Western countries of wanting to split Syria's territory. Foreign Minister Lavrov says Moscow, Ankara and Tehran are working to preserve Syria's integrity.
Russia, Turkey and Iran want to maintain the unity of Syria”, while statements by Washington, London and Paris for resolving the crisis “are only words” and conceal the goal of “reforming the Middle East and dividing Syria into 3 pieces”. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov declared this at the end of the summit with Ankara and Tehran counterparts, the guarantor nations of the Astana format. This was reported by the Interfax news agency.
The foreign ministers of Russia, Iran and Turkey are determined to take urgent measures under the peace process in Astana, Russian Foreign Minister at the end of meeting with his colleagues Mevlut Chavlusoglu and Mohammad Darif said in Moscow.
“We decided to gather to discuss the unusual situation in Syria”, Lavrov confirmed.
“We believe that it is essential that urgently we agree to collective measures within the context of the Astana format, which we created more than a year ago, in order to push Syria towards peace”, the Russian top diplomat concluded according to what Tass reports.
Meanwhile, these statements, the West has responded by saying they fully support Syria's territorial integrity. However, they do not see a secure future for the country with a president like Bashar al-Assad.
