After a long battle and a popular protest, two children in Indonesia last week have managed to get married.
The 15-year-old boy and 14-year-old girl had received a marriage permit from a religious-based court, but the case raised many protests and debates, not just within the country.
The new bride said the marriage was <x0fat”, showing that they've been dating each other for five months. When their families realized it, they immediately suggested that the children marry. The bride's mother was also married at the age of 14.
Indonesia is a predominantly Muslim country and has the highest number of children's marriages, writes BBC, and Kosovo passes.
By current law, women are allowed marriage by 16 years of age, while boys of 19 years, but religious courts can rule out the rule, and they often do so.
