After several days in silence, former Adriatic General Prosecutor Lella has reacted today over allegations of corruption that were made in his direction by US Ambassador to our country Donald Lu.
Stressing that he is not involved in any cases near corruption, Lella says he has not been against the Justice Reformation for a moment, even working to make it happen.
But, on the other hand, the former head of the Albanian prosecution says he has not agreed on the way Lu has tried to influence the administration of justice, undermining all judges and prosecutors.
“Ambassador Lou's charges are groundless and will prove untrue if they are brought before every court. I take advantage of the opportunity to repeat clearly and firmly that I have supported and continue to support the Justice Reform in Albania. I support any reform that serves the interests of the Albanian people by guaranteeing an independent system of justice and power sharing.
But I am against any attempt to establish Albanian justice under the influence of everyone, political parties, oligarchs, or criminal and business interests. Of course, whenever necessary I have given my view of concrete proposals in drafting reform. My stances have always reflected my deep concern for my obligation as the attorney general to ensure that prosecutors continue to fight crime and corruption even while reforms were drafted and to preserve the morale of many prosecutors and public servants who are honest and corrupt.”, "Lalla cuts in a reaction to the media."
For the Adriatic, Ambassador Donald Lu's behavior is unacceptable, which, according to him, has not only tried to influence the administration of justice from time to time, but has pressed strong accusations against him of corruption.
Lalla is careful to say that his work as chief prosecutor is judged by citizens, but he is confident that he is not involved in any corrupt relatives or abusers of office.
He says Lou is doing both the prosecutor and the judge, publicly coming out and saying he's in the investigation or even going further, his guilty claim.
“Of course, it is the public's right to review and judge my work and achievements as Attorney General, but I have never taken any steps or action against reform in justice, I have never abused office, and I have never been involved in corrupt actions.
Ambassador Lou's personal attacks are irresponsible and unacceptable. For me it is difficult to understand how a foreign ambassador can claim to be aware of an alleged investigation by the authorities of the host country.
Ambassador Lou has not only introduced himself to domestic investigation processes, but he has given himself the right to act as prosecutor, judge and jury publicly declaring that I am under investigation and then declaring me guilty and to what I must be condemned, without any evidence or any fair process.
Unfortunately, my attitude towards me is another case in the continuation of Ambassador Lu's continued efforts to influence the justice administration in Albania, among other things by arbitrarily attacking all prosecutors, including honest and devoted prosecutors who risk their daily lives to fight drug trafficking and political corruption.”,
Finally, the former head of the prosecution body for several years says the US ambassador has violated both Albanian and international laws with his statements and actions, while urging him to stop abusing his power by interfering with the management of the Albanian justice system.
“Ambassador Lu's behaviour is distorting diplomacy and outright violation of Albanian and international lawmen. It is time for Ambassador Lu to stop abusing his power by interfering with the management of the Albanian justice system..”
