KKUK will save half a million euros annually from energy efficiency

Economic Development Minister Valdrin Luka has said that the Government of Kosovo together with the World Bank are investing in 12 items, of them nine are hospitals and three are university, and by the end of the year, 50 projects that will help save electricity.

Minister Luka made these comments during the inauguration ceremony of the Kosovo Energy Efficiency and Renewed Energy Project at the Stomatology clinic in QKU.

With these projects, not really the objects that are now in a better state, but also the working conditions have improved, and most importantly, there are extremely large energy savings. So all of these first 12 projects predict about half a million euros that are annual savings from energy bills, budget tools, which will be distributed where they should be located --”, Luka said.

It expects another 20 projects to be inaugurated by September of this year.

Health Minister Uran Ismaili said that under health reforms, there is also reduced spending in health institutions.

In this huge health reform that we're trying to do, a significant part has been to reduce the costs that health institutions generate, we've created an opportunity to have 400 thousand euros of spending cuts and give us a good model from these nine hospital objects, which have been renovated in this form. It also provides a pattern for us to access all other health institutions. This is going to be a model of ours that we've been given, but on the other hand, we're not going to stop that much, and I think we're going to try to work together to distribute it to all other health institutions and keep the costs that are created, enabling the budget to get as much of it to patients and needs that are too big for our patients”, Minister Ishmael said.

Kosovo University and Hospital Clinical Service Director Basri Sejdiu has said this project is a great help, as those savings will be distributed for patients' services.

On behalf of the hospital service, thank you very much for this project, which is a huge help that the savings made will be used for drugs or for projects following”, say Sejdiu.

WB Director for Kosovo Marco Mantovanelli has said they are supporting Kosovo Government with a $31m loan, with the goal of saving public funds, expected within a year to cut spending of 18m euros a year from all projects.

The “objectives of this project are to have more efficiency in spending public money. We expect that after implementing this project with these savings, public funds will be saved to a total of 18m euros annually. The second objective of this project is to reduce energy demand and thereby contribute to a more stable energy sector, the third objective of course is for a cleaner environment, and the fourth for jobs to be created through this process”, Mantovanelli stressed.

Otherwise, the Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Project is continuing with support from the BB to the other sector, in municipalities.
