The head of the northeastern state has told his South Korean counterpart Mun Jane-In, at their historic meeting, that he is willing to give up nuclear weapons if the US wants to engage to officially end the Korean war and promise not to attack North Korea.
Kim Jong-un at the Mün Ji-In meeting promised he would close the range for nuclear testing in May and invite experts and journalists from South Korea and the US to monitor the process, the South Korean president's office announced.
Although there is no answer whether North Korea will decide to give up nuclear weapons fully, Kim's statement during negotiations with the US represents the most concrete admission of genean so far that “de nucleariisation” also means handing over weapons.
American President John Bolton's National Security Adviser has reacted coldly to Kim's statements that he would give up nuclear weapons, if Washington promises not to attack North Korea.
What we want from them is the fact that this is real and that it's not just about the words”, he said.
North Korea has long promised to continue with the nuclear program if the United States does not withdraw its 28,500 soldiers from South Korea as well as its nuclear arsenal dedicated to protecting South Korea and Japan.
Otherwise, the two Korean states continue to be in formal conflict after the end of the 1950-1953 war, except for the ceasefire, brought no formal peace agreement. /Periscopi/
