Kosovo Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj has said that Kosovo and Catalonia have nothing similar and such analogy makes no sense.
He said that during an interview with the Madrile daily “El Pais”, adding that Kosovo is a very different case than that.
There is no possible analogy between Kosovo and Catalonia. Determining this similarity means ignoring history or misinterpreting. Can't compare the depression under Milosevic's regime to the rule of Spanish law; doing so is offensive. Spain is an advanced democracy. Our case stems from the breakup, through the tragic wars of the former Yugoslavia, in the 1990s. There is a profound difference: We fought most of all for basic human rights. It's not the case of Catalonia”, he said of this newspaper.
According to this newspaper, Haradinaj has staunchly reiterated that Kosovo will not recognise Catalonia's independence.
His interview came after Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy had declared that he would veto the European declaration including Kosovo, which is expected to be signed at the EU-Balkan summit to be held 17 May in Sofia.
He has valued this as unnecessary.
Rajoy's “Veto is unfortunate, because Kosovo has great respect for Spain as a nation and as a consolidated democracy. Like other countries that emerged from the breakup of Yugoslavia, so are we. I hope that one day Spain will accept us as a member of the European family that we are”, he added.
He added that in this, Sam, he would be open to any contact and that it would be an honor to, say hello to Rajoy.
“I am open to any contact, it would be an honour to welcome Rajoy”, Haradinaj said. /indysonline/
