Kosovo Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj has said the health sector is still in poor condition. Haradinaj said that even though the budget has been allocated for this important sector, there is still a impasse.
The prime minister in particular has cited infrastructure and low health staff salaries.
The lack of drugs is also an impasse in the health sector. But the government, according to Prime Minister Haradinaj, will give priority and support the health sector.
Even though we have allocated 20m euros to the additional health budget, we know this is not the magic solution. Now two situations for me are important to treat. First, I believe and feel it, and I've witnessed for myself what situations doctors, medical technicians, medical personnel, and that they are heroes of this people. Are the wages dignified and we know that today's situation is not right. Our health infrastructure is old, part of this infrastructure is missing even the other basic sanitation, it's beautiful and heavy, we have the situation with the challenges still, long waiting lists are still present, services in certain cases do not respond to the patient's requests”, Haradinaj said.
Prime Minister Haradinaj issued this statement on World Health Day, where the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organisation have marked World Health Day.
But for Health Minister Uran Ismajli, this sector in Kosovo has improved markedly.
Ismaili has mentioned raising the level of accountability, improving hospital service management and regulating the pharmaceutical sector.
While also mentioning the Government's decision to establish the Health Insurance Board.
“We have raised the level in accountability at the Ministry of Health, improved the management of the University Hospital Service and are working on regulating the pharmaceutical sector, concreteised the health insurance fund by making transparent steps that must be taken through transparent communication with the public, yesterday in the Government of Kosovo we have made the decision to establish the health insurance board that opens the way for preconditions to be met for health insurance”, Ismaili said.
Head of the World Health Organization office. Ardita Tahirukaj called on European countries and Kosovo to become the reduction of patient payments, which lead to financial hardship. That, with particular emphasis, called for public financing for the poorest population and sensitive groups.
On this World Health Day, the World Health Organization calls on leaders of the European region but also in Kosovo to take co-ordinated action towards general health coverage, specifically, reducing pocket payments that lead to financial hardship, requires more public financing and very carefully designed health coverage policies in the poorest population and more sensitive groups”, Tahirukaj said.
The organisation also discussed many problems that burden the health sector in Kosovo.
