The EU has named it arbitrary and against human rights the arrest of Turkish citizens last Thursday.
“The arrest and subsequent expulsion of six Turkish citizens who had residence permits in Kosovo raises doubts about respecting the regular legal process”, EU spokeswoman Maja Kocijanciq has declared.
The rule of law is the fundamental principle of the European Union. In line with their determination to build a free and democratic future, and also as the Stabilisation and Association Agreement with the European Union stipulates, all actions of local institutions in Kosovo must be in line with rule of law and universal respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms. The arbitrary procedures regarding arrest, maintenance or asylum conflict with these principles”, Kocijanciq stressed, in response to the Express Journal, via e-mail.
“As far as Turkey is concerned, although we understand the need to bring to justice those responsible for the July 15th coup effort, any charges of wrongdoing or crime should be submitted to regular process and well-known international norms when extradition is required. Each individual's right to right judgment should be fully respected. As a candidate country for membership in the European Union and as a member of the Council of Europe, Turkey has accepted these principles”, the EU spokeswoman has declared.
