Canadian police are questioning the suspect who ran a van that rushed on pedestrians in Toronto, killing 10 persons and injured 15 others. The suspect has been identified as 25-year-old Alek Minassian, and police said he was not recognised by authorities. Minasssian had rented a van and used it to hit numerous passersby until the car stopped.
Minassian was arrested a few minutes after the bloody attack, following a tense confrontation with police. Networked videos show the suspect pretending to have a weapon, prompting the agent to fire. However, the latter proved quite cool and was able to arrest the suspect without using weapons, something for which he received much praise.
Meanwhile, Toronto Police investigators say the attack is clearly deliberate, but the motives are not yet clear. Investigators have been very frugal with details, while analysts say the fact that the suspect was not recognised by the authorities makes the case even more complicated.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said the tragic and meaningless attack had caused him great sadness, while adding that the government is close to victims and their families.
