Philippines President Rodrigo Dutterte threatened to arrest a Hague prosecutor if she performs activities in his country, saying the Philippines is no longer a member of the court and that the latter has no right to make any investigation.
In a fierce attack on what he sees as an attempt to present as a cruel human rights offender, Dutterte pulled the Philippines out of Rome's statue a month ago and promised to continue drug operations, as a result of which thousands were killed, broadcast tch.
Hague prosecutor Fatou Bensuda announced in February the launch of a preliminary investigation into complaints of a lawyer from the Philippines who accuses Duterten and senior officials of crimes against humanity and the execution of criminals as state politics. It is not clear whether prosecutor Bensuda carried out any investigative excise in the Philippines, but Duterte was made clear in his intentions, especially after the country's departure from The Hague.
“What is your authority? We are not members of the treaty. You can do no activity here. It would be illegal and I would arrest you”, Duterte said.
Since July 2016, police have killed over 40,000 drug traffickers in the Philippines who resisted arrest. But activists say many of these operations were allegations that police deny.
