Hoti: To protect with democratic protest the American gas project, rejection comes from the VV's anti-American approach.

Former Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti has called for the project to be built on American gas to be protected by democratic protest.

Hoti has said that Kosovo, with the rejection of such a project, risks remaining the only country in the region outside the project.

According to Hoti, Kurti Government and LVV are continuing to reject the project despite Washington's insistence.

He has said that rejecting the gas project may be motivated only by anti-American orientation and that he does not focus any of the reasons given to his refusal.

I extend an invitation that economic organizations, civil society organisations, businesses, citizens and all concerned join democratic protests in support of the American gas project and the preservation of Kosovo's non-negotiable alliance with the American people”, Hoti wrote.

TA WE LEARN WITH DEMOCRATIC PROTESE GAZ'S PROJECTION U.S.A.A. AND OUR ALENCE WITH THE U.S.A.

Rejecting American-born Natural Gas project (LNG), Kosovo risks remaining the only country in the Western Balkans that remains outside this project.

The rejection of this project by the Kosovo government, led by the LVV, is continuing despite the strong insistence of the American Administration, expressed by senior American officials in Kosovo and Washington in recent weeks for Kosovo to become part of this regional project.

The gas project stems from the September 4th 2020 Washington Agreement, which was rejected by all political arms, in particular by LVV. Some LVV subordinates and servants, to show political devotion, described the agreement as unconstitutional.

At the time, these objections were neglected and described as local political rivalry. Fearing criticism and political attacks by LVV, many political exhibits were afraid to mention the Washington Agreement and the gas project. My insistence on the application of that agreement was even criticized. Only recently, as the project is being sought earnestly by the American side, these exhibits have begun to raise their voices.

Today, everyone has a clear understanding that those objections stem from the anti-American orientation of LVV. And that's not new. The LVV has opposed Vienna's independence negotiations, as well as the Stabilisation and Association Agreement that paved the way for Kosovo's European integration.

The reasons given by the Government of Kosovo for rejecting the gas project are economic and totally groundless. It has been declared that the project contains risks and that additional information is needed to assess whether it is economically convenient. It has been declared that Kosovo's new energy strategy envisions the renewal of existing coal capacities and the creation of new capacities from renewable sources. And recently, government interest in the idea of turning coal into synthetic gas suddenly arises.

But, as stated very clearly by the American side, none of these reasonings contradict or exclude the American gas project. This project is fully compatible with all the energy projects provided by Kosovo, enabling Kosovo to diversify energy resources and full security of imported supply. Thus, the gas project cannot be rejected on economic grounds, but is in favour of all economic arguments.

The danger facing Kosovo from rejecting this project is not only economic consequences, which we are actually paying for now for four years. Through bills much higher, citizens and businesses in Kosovo have paid 735m euros for energy imports from neighbouring countries in the past four years, out of them 142m euros in 2024 and 259m euros in 2025. Kosovo's isolation from this project provides for diversification of energy resources. Remaining dependent on coal, Kosovo in the future is forced to pay the fee for carbon emissions, which the fees will pay citizens and businesses through more expensive energy bills.

As stated by the American side, the American gas project aims, above all, to remove Russian influence in the Western Balkan region and beyond. Consequently, this project has geopolitical significance for Kosovo, the region and the entire Euro-Atlantic alliance.

Thus, rejection of this project may be motivated only by anti - American orientation.

I extend an invitation for economic opas, civil society organisations, businesses, citizens and all concerned to join democratic protests in support of the American gas project and the preservation of Kosovo's non-negotiable coalition with the American people.
