Children's Marriages to Growing Syrian Refugees

Great poverty and difficulties in a conflicted situation have prompted families to marry their young daughters.

According to statistics from Jordan's court system, young marriages of Syrian refugee children, mostly girls, are on the rise.

In 2014, 15% of all Syrian marriages had involved children, while now that figure is 36%.

By UNICEF, they have indicated that more work needs to be done in order to provide girls with an education and break the cycle of poverty.
