In efforts to fight terrorism and crime as effectively as possible, Switzerland's federal authorities are planning to increase the means to do so. So the Federal Police Office (Fedpol) has announced that it will create a unit called “Passer Information Unit”, Swiss media report.
This unit is going to do research on passenger data entering Switzerland via the airway, and in that case it will conduct investigations into suspected peersons.
Formation will have 15 to 30 employees, broadcast albinfo.ch. It will consist of canton officials and border guards.
To round up this plan, Fedpol is expected to file a corresponding request to the Federal Council.
Switzerland thus aims to deal with the US, Canada and EU countries, which collect and verify passenger data for security purposes.
This is confirmed today on the “show. Samstagundschau” radio SRF, Nicolaa Valle, director of the Federal Office for Police, broadcast albinfo.ch. According to it, some 50 million data or information about passenger air transport circulates within the year in Switzerland.
Starting in late May, Switzerland will hand over all information to the EU concerning all flights going through Switzerland. She's been doing this for a long time with the United States and Canada.
