Alarming infant mortality figures in Macedonia

The dead babies during the period between January and March of this year are part of the category of premature babies. We point out that only one of the dead babies was born in the appointed term but with an abnormality of organs that is impossible to heal. According to statistics, about 80% of babies have changed their lives due to extreme organ development and due to extremely low weight, the Health Ministry says.

On the other hand, U data NICEFs show Macedonia is the only country in the entire region, which marks a significant increase in infant mortality.

Throughout the region, Macedonia marks the highest level of infant mortality. In countries of the region, there is a trend of infant mortality decline, while our country is the only country in the region since 2010, which has an alarming mortality rate growth trend. There are many factors that affect this situation, the first thing is that pregnant people do not perform regular medical examinations, especially in rural countries, it is difficult access to the doctor, so they cannot know if they have complications.

“People think that improving health services is about building large objects and buying equipment, but the issue is on human factor and investment in”, said Benjamin Perks, representative of U n NICEF Macedonia, reports Alsat M.

According to Unicef, polluted air is one of the important factors that bring about this situation, meanwhile, they recommend that the problem be lost and know exactly what causes the situation. During March, the Health Ministry has made assessments of conditions in many hospitals where births are performed and defined the level of health services. During the upcoming period, the report of these inspections is expected to reach and on their basis even to take certain evental measures.
