Living high in the mountains, full of idyllic views and the slow pace of life, may not be as beautiful as it seems!
Scientists have found that living in high altitude areas can increase the risk of depression, China reports.
Those living there may be almost four times as likely to commit suicide, according to a review of medical literature, the Daily Mail points out.
University of Utah researchers believe that disturbing results can be the result of low atmospheric pressure.
This leads to much lower levels of oxygen in the blood, known medically as the chronic hippobaric absyxia.
Evidence on animals already suggests that this could change the effects of chemical serotonin “feels good”, believed to play a role in depression, Kosovo reports.
