In a trailing field on the outskirts of Goritsa, Ashfak Mahmoud, a short and thin man with a dark blue tarpaulin and a blue black hat, throws out the gloves worn by work.
Mahmoud is one of seven victims of anti-emigrarian violence who has spoken of “Al Jazeera”. Citing the low number of arrests stemming from violence, all victims accused police of acting too slowly or of treating cases with negligence.
“Precisely there they stayed when I noticed”, he says of a group of Greek males who walked up and followed him while working in April 2017.
During his two years in the fields of Gortisa, he had reported on several attacks of the extreme right, reports “Al Jazeera”, Periscopi broadcast.
They said they like Pakistanis, that they're with Pakistanis, that they eat often with Pakistanis and they don't have a problem with me”, he recalls, “and then they went and left”.
From that day on, however, he suspected that his time would come. I was 100 percent sure they were planning an attack,” says Mahmud.
He joined anti-racist protests that were scattered to Aspropyrgos and villages around last year.
There were many racist attacks, and they were caused by extreme right-wing groups told me in protest,” he recalls.
I was going to the hospital with the wounded and the police station to file complaints. How could I not help when people were beaten in front of me?
On October 7th, 2017, Mahmoud's fear became a reality after a group of masked persons on Saturday afternoon confronted fellow Eagle Hussein.
One of the masked men wore a knife.
His associate, Hussey, managed to escape, and he had no chance of leaving.
“One by one, we'd cut their throats,” told the attacker Mahmud, the moment they hit him constantly. “We'll burn you alive in your house. Don't think we're gonna leave you alone. If you go to the police, make sure you're worse next time. ”
He was later hospitalized for treating his wounds, but Mahmud said he felt pain under his eyes.
In October, after Mahmoud and Hussein were beaten in Gorssa, Golden Dawn, who has secured 16 seats in the Helen Parliament, considered the charges against them to be “sulem defaming”.
“We condemn the total violence and not by chance we continue our legitimate and fair fight for the liberation of Greece,” said in the statement of the Golden Dawn party, dropping its accusations as corrupt “”.
Today, 69 party members, including the entire parliamentary group from the 2012 elections, are still on trial, and legal proceedings have moved at the pace of snails.
In 2015, 75 refugee attacks have been documented. In 2016, however, there were a smaller number - a total of 31 incidents./Periscopi/
