Births in Kosovo on falling trend

The number of births in Kosovo in the past seven years has marked declines for more than 10,000 births less, while the main factors seen as causes of the decline of nighthood in Kosovo are difficult economic conditions, the law of leukemia, family planning, and female emancipation. According to the Statistics Agency [...]

A total of 3,966 were registered in 2010 by the Statistics Agency of Kosovo, and in 2016, 23.494 births were recorded.

In contrast, the University Clinical Centre of Kosovo alone recorded 10 thousand and 139 births in 2016, while 10 thousand and 161 were registered in 2017, with about 1,000 and 442 births in the first two months of 2018.

Kosovo University Clinical Clinic Director Myrvete Pacharada argues with the fact that women in Kosovo are devoting more to careers.

That language law in Kosovo and family planning see them as factors that are affecting declines and nightiness in the country.

Another problem that's a phenomenon is that it's a very short break to mothers. She's forced to leave her little child to continue her job because she loses the contract, loses her job... Even the best family planning that day is being seen in new generations with birth control of real family planning, namely, it is affecting better, more reasonable planning... does not mean that you don't have children, but it means becoming children when your child is favorable to the parent. The child should be planned not to be passed on a non-control”, she added.

According to her, falling births can also be taken as a positive trend if planned.

In a way, even the decline in numbers can be taken as a positive trend if planned, if we have this intellectual rise of our daughters, but in the other way. Kosovo never has enough children, we need children and appeal to young people to give birth as many children“as possible, he said.

Kosovo University Clinical Centre director Myrvete Pacharada claims that in the coming years there will be further birth declines.

Alliance for the Future of Kosovo MP Time Kadrijaj linked the decline of nightiness in Kosovo to the absence of large family communities, women's employment and the lack of relevant institutions that could take care of babies.

She added that the leukemia cease, which gives mothers the right to stop 12 months, stimulates mothers to give birth to more than one child.

There may be many reasons why it has fallen because now there is another dynamism of life, there are no more large family communities, women are employed, and the possibility of raising a child because they're in business is very difficult. We as women deputy during the labour law's administration, which includes the firing of lehonia, have struggled that women have been offered conditions that may be able to raise children because we don't have specialised institutions that care for babies in the first period of life, there are no organizations that have qualified women who can perform services because in some form there's no security, nests may be enough, but most nests don't accept them until the age of 1 and maybe that's why dynamism, work and the possibility of raising the child, he said.

In the decline of births in Kosovo, according to Time Kadrijaj has also influenced no payment of lehonia breaks in the private sector, where in this case it has asked the Labour Inspectorate to monitor the sector more.

While, according to sociologist Besim Gollopen, factors that have contributed to the birth decline in Kosovo are migrations, emancipation of the female, family planning, difficult social and economic conditions in Kosovo.

Besides causing mechanical or external population migrations or migrations, especially external ones, of course we have other socioeconomic, cultural aspects that have to do with a progress on the emancipation, and especially female emancipation, and of course, family planning is made today for the number of children and the way they raise them, and of course this has had their own impact. It is the economic conditions many young people make to postpone entering marriage because of the serious economic situation in the country, the high unemployment rate, poverty, the lack of perspective for these young people. A large part of young people in particular of the most pronounced female gender is where they want more to pursue a career when they then create families”, he said.

According to him, divorce and the lack of popular policies in Kosovo have also affected the decline in nightiness in the country.

In contrast, according to statistics from the 2010 Statistics Agency of Kosovo, 33 thousand and 966 births were registered in 2011, and in 2014 there are a total of 26 thousand and 87 births, in 2012 there were registered 27 thousand and 912 births, and in 2016 there were registered 29 thousand and 459 births, totaling 26 thousand and 87 births in 2015, 24 thousand and 716 births, while 23 thousand and 494 births were registered.

In Kosovo, the labour law envisions that each mother-born child should meet a one-year drop in language with a 70 per cent salary fee which the employer is obliged to pay for, 3 months of average salary in Kosovo, which the Government of Kosovo did, and three more months free of charge.
