The US Embassy in Kosovo has warned American citizens of increased danger of terrorist attacks in Kosovo during Catholic and Orthodox holidays.
The State Department wants to warn American citizens of the increased risk of terrorist attacks in Kosovo, especially during holiday seasons. American citizens should be careful about holiday celebrations and events surrounding the Catholic and Orthodox Easter celebrations”.
“Extremists continue to focus on tourist sites, shopping malls, bars [kafen], houses of worship and other objectives. Please exercise extra vigilance in these countries and similar locations”, the US Embassy in Pristina announced.
This embassy has further provided instructions regarding the care citizens must have on these events.
Full US advice:
Keep your profile in public and do not draw attention to yourself as an American.
Consider your personal security plans: Criminals and terrorists can monitor your movements. Change the way and time of your moves to become a more unpredictable target.
Be aware of your environment: Identify the location of emergency exits and security services when you are in public places.
Avoid crowds / demonstrations: If you are in an area where a crowd is gathered (festation, demonstration, etc.), try to leave the area or, for at least, go to the edge of the crowd where you can leave if necessary.
Stay alert at tourist locations.
Monitor local media for updates. Monitor social media, television and radio reports, or instructions from the Embassy or the nearest US Consulate.
