The meat imported from the firm “Vevaba” from Belgium has sparked reactions from Kosovo's citizens and MPs, who have considered one of the biggest scandals with food products for the risk of citizens' health in the country.
MP Bekim Haxhiu for this 12-year-old meat scandal has said it is very important to make it public by Kosovo Customs than how much such merchandise has been introduced by this company “Vevaba”, before 2016.
Kosovo Customs spokesman Adriatic Stavileci has told Kosovo Preris that Belgian firm “Veviba” has had three imports in Kosovo, which have been in total for about 60 thousandkg.
MP Bekim Haxhiu, except that he has sought to investigate the company “Europa Ida” from Rahoveci, has said that the serious and disturbing problem remains, even non-respect and implementation of the SAA on international obligations.
For the investigation of the Euro Ida company, which had accepted the old meat from the Belgian company, Minister of Trade and Industry Bajram Hasani has said they have formed a Workers' Group for the investigation of the company “Europa Ida” from Rahoveci, over the old meat accepted by Veviba.
Ibrahim Tarsnjak from the Food and Veterina Agency has said the move has been taken for all non-quality importative companies.
While, Kosova Prees has tried to contact Eruro Ida's owner, Driton Yup from Rahoveci, but has not been accessible.
Otherwise, according to the Adriatic Stavileci from Kosovo Customs within the average year of imports of meat from Belgium is 200 thousand kilograms.
In total, the amount of meat import in Kosovo within a year is about 40 million pounds. Most of the 30 million is chicken, and the rest is beef.
