Turkish authorities have detained 5371 migrants and refugees last week who tried to illegally cross borders or illegally access European Union countries.
According to the Turkish Interior Ministry, among them 389 migrants and refugees have been detained at sea, stressing that 136 persons suspected of trafficking in human beings were arrested during the same period.
Since the agreement with Brussels two years ago, the number of migrants and refugees who arrive from Turkey every day in EU countries, particularly Greece, has fallen to an average of several dozen.
