Short pilot whales were spotted Friday morning on the coast of Hamel Bay, about 160 miles south of Perth.
But in the twilight, all except the seven Persians have died, according to the State Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Entertainment, reports “New York”, Periscope broadcast.
“The majority of whales were brought ashore and could not survive,” said Jeremy Chick of the Park Department and Wild Animals Service.
Efforts were held Friday evening to move the seven surviving whales into the deepest waters, the department declared through a post in Twitter.
More than 100 wildlife conservation volunteers have reached the beach shore, but rescuers said the conditions there and the threat of fish were hampering their efforts.
A similar case occurred in 1996 in western Australia when 320 long - nested pilot whales entered Dunsborough, about 40 miles north of Hamel Bay. /Periscopi/
