Albanians in Italy are increasingly taking over the citizenship of the neighbouring state, and according to Italian Statistics Institute data, it has already changed trends, not for Italian marriage to get this document, but for the long duration of the stay.
In 2016 alone, 36,920 Albanians have sworn allegiance to the Italian Constitution, Istat says. All this has led to a decrease in the number of Albanians with the position document, which is below 450 thousand.
More precisely, the Albanian community in Italy, with residence permits, has grown from year to year until early 2013, when it passed half a million, 502,546. A reduction has since been observed to reach 441,838 people on January 1st 2017.
Just in the same period of reducing the Albanian community with residence permits, the number of those becoming Italian citizens has increased.
2016 figures fourfold compared to 2012 where only 9,493 Albanians have become Italians. From year to year, growth has been inevitable.
So, in reference to official figures by the end of 2016, the total number of Albanians who received Italian citizenship exceeds 150 thousand people. / TCH/
