United Nations humanitarian affairs adviser Jan Egeland said aid shipments for hundreds of thousands of civilians trapped inside <x0) surrounding” in Syria have fallen to the lowest level since 2015.
According to him, no need for humanitarian aid has reached these countries since November.
The humanitarian diplomacy seems to be completely powerless”, Egeland told reporters in Geneva, following a meeting of regional and global powers for the crisis in Syria.
Egeland blamed both Syria Government and rebels for the situation, as well as countries supporting them, Radio Free Europe reports.
He cited Russia and Iran, which have given support to President Bashar al-Assad's regime throughout the conflict, as well as to Turkey, which supports rebel groups.
” The situation is shouting for a ceasefire”, Egeland said, speaking of the province of Idlib, where 1.2 million civilians are internally displaced.
Civil war in Syria has killed over 400,000 people, since it started in March 2011. The conflict has also displaced about half the pre-war population.
