Kosovo's Ambassador to the US, Vlora Citaku, has published on her Twitter account the independence letter from Independence Sopa, the girl who was born a few minutes after Kosovo declared independence.
The letter says:
Dear friend,
My name is Independence. I was born on February 17, 2008, a few minutes after my country declared its independence. That day I was among the most fortunate newborns in the world, because I was born free. I want to thank you for getting this.
In Albanian, my name means independence. I'm proud to keep that name and I understand its importance. I also love the Kosovo flag because its history is linked to my birthday.
I grew up with my country, and this year we're both 10. My birthday wish is for Kosovo to become a wonderful state and for all children in Kosovo to have a happy future.
Love, Sopa Independence.
The first child born after Kosovo independence.
