The International Olympic Committee (IOC) retaliates to the Arbitrazhi Sportiv Court in regard to 28 Russian athletes, who were denied a life suspension sentence.
For 13 of these athletes and two trainers were asked to extend the invitation for participation in the Winter Olympic Games, which was rejected by the IOC.
A special commission of this body unanimously decided to ban the competition of these athletes in the most important winter sports event, which starts in Pyongchang in a few days.
We confirm that there will be no other invitations for these 15 athletes, who were part of the group who were suspended forever from activities, but that the Lausanne CAS annulled the” sentence, the IOC, whose panel, led by former French Sports Minister Valeri Fourneyro, had reviewed all cases for one.
The International Olympic Committee prevented Russia from participating in the Olympic Games because of the doping scandal that has rocked the sports world. The exception makes 169 athletes who proved clean after a series of strong antidoping tests, allowing them to participate in this sporting event under the Olympic flag.
I've been worried about the CAS decision, which we're going to re-open, which we're going to appeal to”, said IOC President Thomas Bach, the position the World Antidoping Agency later showed.
