Al Qaeda remains a greater threat than the extremist Islamic State group in many regions, UN experts said in a report.
The report, which was seen by the Associated Press agency, says that the al-Qaeda terrorist network “is very resistant” and remains a threat in countries like Yemen and Somalia.
The panel of experts is monitoring sanctions against both groups and has made remarks in a report to the UN Security Council.
Experts said Al Qaeda <x0 remains a serious threat within the Arab Peninsula, planning attacks on the Middle East”.
In addition, al-Qaeda propaganda continues to highlight a new generation of potential leaders, such as Hamza Bin Laden, in an effort to create a new image of its sympathies”, experts said.
Hamza Bin Laden is the son of Osama bin Laden, who has ordered terrorist attacks in the United States on September 11th, 2001.
Experts, however, did not minimize the risk from the Islamic State, saying it presents “large and developing threats around the world”.
