Parliament's Building in Tongo Shelves

The parliament building in the Pacific State in Tongo has been completely destroyed by the strongest storm that has hit the country in more than 60 years.

Cyclone Gita, a category 4, hit the island overnight and caused untold damage.

Power poles collapsed, and the roof had been cut off from the homes by strong winds.

The government declared a state of emergency before the storm struck and established evacuation centers where thousands of people settled overnight.
