Pacolli: EU Demarcation Condition Unfair

Kosovo Foreign Minister Behgjet Pacolli has met with former prime minister of Sweden, currently co-chairman of the European Council for Foreign Relations (ECFR), Carl Bildt and his team, known today in Pristina through a media communiqué. Pacolli has said approval of the demarcation would open a new page for Kosovo. [...]

Pacolli has said approval of the demarcation would open a new page for Kosovo.

The adoption of the demarcation agreement with Montenegro will open a new page for Kosovo and all its citizens and our country will no longer remain a black hole in the Western Balkans”, Pacolli has said.

Pacolli calls the condition the European Union has set for Kosovo visa liberalisation unfair.

“Indeed, it has been unfair, which the European Union conditioned Kosovo to ratify the demarcation agreement with Montenegro for visa liberalisation. Today, there are many other countries in Europe, and they even enjoy that right and have such problems still unresolved of state borders. Kosovo citizens, in particular young people, who make up the majority of the population here have not had to feel isolated and uneven in relation to their peers in other countries on the fundamental principle of the right to free movement of citizens. Despite this, the adoption of this agreement, which I hope will happen soon, will open up many new opportunities for our citizens”, Pacolli said.

Within the framework of this meeting of the two conversationators have exchanged their views on recent developments in Kosovo, the Western Balkans, the process and acceleration of the integration of these countries within the EU and NATO, trends and economic development, neighbourly, regional and international co-operation.

For his part, former prime minister of Sweden Carl Bildt, who is otherwise praised as a deep connoisseur of developments in the Western Balkans, has expressed his personal readiness and that of the institution that co-directs for co-operation and support in matters, which could be considered of mutual interest.
