Markoviq, in an interview for Kosovo public television, has said Montenegro wants to see Kosovo in the EU and NATO and that in this respect it will support and assist Kosovo institutions, if there is a request from Kosovo authorities.
“I am for quick entry into the Western Balkans into the EU. Of course, not without merit, but according to the quality of the process leading EU candidate states. This means that the EU should be more open to the Western Balkan countries when dealing with enlargement policy. Currently, the EU views us as countries with a lack of European and democratic values, as countries that need to be disciplined administratively so that one day they can be in the European Union”, Markovic added.
According to the Montenegrin prime minister, the countries of the region have tradition, culture and values, but because of different historical circumstances in the past, have lost the chance for European prospects.
For that we ask the European Union to clearly send messages for the European enlargement vision and perspective for the Western Balkan countries, including, of course, Kosovo. For this reason, this year is key to us because we have some important events that will determine the future of each country individually and the region as a whole”, Markovic said.
He has said that at Tuesday's meeting with Haradinaj in Pristina, he will ask the latter to make a bold decision, which is ratification of the demarcation agreement.
I need to make decisions that assure citizens more than they have today. When Montenegro chose to recognise Kosovo, the political climate in Montenegro was rampant. Over 85 percent of citizens opposed the Government's decision to recognise Kosovo. But we, however, recognised Kosovo. I would say that, due to such decisions and such a vision that then Montenegrin governance has had, Kosovo today enjoys a part of the benefits as a country that has European and auro-Atlantic perspective and stability as the key need of the region”, Markoviq ordered, while stressing that his country does not receive even a centimeter of Kosovo's territory.
