Ahmetaj, who has also been Kosovo's ambassador to Brussels, has welcomed the consensus reached among political parties for crossing the demarcation, voicing confidence that this issue will end.
I am optimistic that such a thing will be passed and that we will be opened the way to visa liberalisation. The issue of liberalisation belongs to all citizens of the country, even Serbian citizens cannot freely move if they are citizens of Kosovo, as this is done with agreements in Brussels. I'm sure they too will, so the Serbian List will be pro-prone further to further this issue”, Ahmetaj said, on the show “Face”.
She has stressed that this is the last moment Kosovo must catch in terms of visa liberalisation.
“If we cross the demarcation, now is our last moment for us to arrive at the end of the year to complete the entire process so that our citizens from next year can move freely”, Ahmetaj said.
She added that all MPs have the right to decide for themselves regarding the demarcation vote and that such a thing will eventually be closed and citizens will not be kept isolated.
Ahmetaj has clarified that following the completion of the demarcation are the interior affairs ministers of EU member states those who will provide confirmation of the free movement.
The important thing for us is that we have all member states. The voting process is called qualified majority voting, and it counts on the pro vote when it is from 55% of the member states that have voted for and cover 65% of the EU population, meaning that big states are important to vote on.
The European Commission, the European Parliament and the European Council meet at the end and agree that Kosovo has met all the criteria and, as such, changes are made within Schengen's regulation, and Kosovo becomes part of the Schengen” white list, Ahmetaj has clarified.
