All countries from the Western Balkans will have to see 2025 as the date on which they can join the EU, provided they meet the criteria for membership, European Commission Chairman Jean Claude Juncker said in Tirana last night.
Juncker, who visited Albania under his tour of the Western Balkan countries, stressed that 2025 is the possible “dams for EU accession” of all countries from the Western Balkans, while “not only of the favourites”.
According to him, contrary to what can be read everywhere, the European Commission and it personally have never said that Serbia and Montenegro will certainly become EU members in 2025.
“As the date for admission 2025 is open for all candidate countries, and depending on whether by then or later they will meet the criteria for membership, we will act in the way that we will accept their” efforts, Juncker stressed.
The chairman of the Euro commission in Tirana travels from Skopje, while today he will continue his tour of the countries of the Western Balkans visiting Belgrade.
