This prompted an initiative to identify all deadly diseases and to respond effectively.
The scheme, made by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, was called the Global Health Agency and operated in 49 countries.
The programme's financing, reported by The Wall Street Journal, is expected to end by thus ending disease control operations in 39 countries by the fall of 2019.
The nations involved in these cuts include China, Haiti, Rwanda, Indonesia and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Bill Gates fears that a new and unknown disease could kill a large number of people by 2019.
On an op-ed for Business Insider, he wrote:
“Whether this is due to nature or the hand of a terrorist, epidemiologists say a high-speed air pathogen could kill more than 30 million people in less than a year”.
And they say there is a reasonable probability that the world will experience such an epidemic explosion in the next 10 to 15 years”.
