UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, in a regular report to the Security Council, has spoken about the recent situation in Kosovo. He has spoken of the killing of Civic Initiative leader “Lera, Democracy, Justice”, Oliver Ivanovic.
Guterres says Ivanovic's murder has caused a lot of shock and anger in both Kosovo and the region, adding that the rapid discovery of those responsible for his murder and their bringing them to justice is very important for the preservation and stability of peace in Kosovo, reports Insander.
“I welcome the resignation of political leaders after this crime <x1-freezing> and Belgrade and Pristina's determination to co-operate and prevent tension of political tensions”, the UN Secretary-General said in a report to the Security Council.
The report adds that the UN continues to support the European Union's efforts to promote peace, prosperity and stability in Kosovo and urges political leaders in Belgrade and Pristina to continue implementing agreements reached during Brussels' dialogue.
Gutres noted there was no progress in establishing the Serb Communist Community in the period covered by the report.
The UN Secretary General noted that in July 2017, 498 people voluntarily returned to Kosovo, adding that it was the lowest number since 2000.
The Security Council session on the situation in Kosovo is scheduled for 7 February.
