The Democrats have published a memorandum challenging republican claims that the FBI has abused the government's monitoring powers in investigations into Russian intervention in the US's 2016 presidential elections.
US President Donald Trump had previously banned the complete publication of this document. The democrats' document rejected claims made in an earlier memorandum of republics and addressed the long-term concerns of the FBI, the links of Trump and Russia's campaign aides.
The Democrats have written that the FBI and the Department of Justice “have not abused” on procedures and that they have not “misdemeanored the government” when they sought permission from the tribunal to observe a member of the Trump campaign team. Republicans at the Intelligence Committee have published their memorandum on February 2nd, accusing two law enforcement organisations that they have been biased against Trump and have hidden information, within the framework of investigations into Russian intervention in American politics and any connection to the Trump team.
The republican document assumes that the FBI and the Department of Justice have asked permission to observe Trump's deputy campaign, Carter Page, who had extensive contacts with the Russians. At least 5 people, including 3 former Trump aides, have pleaded guilty to the investigation of special adviser Robert Mueller, though the charges have been linked in the financial field and not directly assume co-operation with Russia.
13 Russians and 3 Russian companies have been indicted in these investigations as well.
