In a letter Selimi has sent to his family from Dubrava Prison, provided by Indexline, he has mentioned the reason for his refusal, writes Indexline.
General Selimi has written that I cannot accept awards for war credit when he is being held unjustly in prison for allegedly war crimes.
Below, find Selim's letter from Dubrava:
I have been honored to receive decorations and recognition from different local and international Presidentials, from the president of Kosovo, from the president of Albania, then from international personalities as UN Secretary General. NATO, from Admiral and NATO General, from many KFOR commanders, from Kosovo Chief Administrator, from the US Army State Guard Commander, from the American ambassador and from many other local and international personalities.
Every time I've been decorated or honored with gratitude I've been proud that my contribution and service to the country have been appreciated.
But today in the media I saw my name among many names decorated by the president of Kosovo on the 10th anniversary of Independence.
How can I be decorated for the merits of war when I'm being unjustly held in prison for alleged war crimes?
So the decoration for me is not acceptable, as long as I am unjustly held and punished.
I refuse this decoration by refusing to accept it so I am offended by hypocrisy!
