Bulgaria Ready for Immediate Membership in Schengen

Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, whose state holds the rotating EU presidency, aspires to the removal of controls at the country's sea and air borders, thus naming Bulgaria able to integrate in part, but immediately into Schengen space. Borissov said he hoped Bulgaria's integration into the space [...]

Borissov said he hoped Bulgaria's integration into the space of the Schengen free movement would immediately be accepted by European partners, which would lead to the opening of maritime and air borders.

Germany has particularly expressed itself in favour of gradual integration with several phases.

EU members since 2007, Bulgaria and Romania have met technical critics for Schengen accession, but some states like the Netherlands are not for their membership, praising that these two states must mark visible progress in the fight against corruption, to protect the borders with credibility.
