Kosovo established its armed force yesterday on December 14th 2018. But, NATO has consistently demanded that Kosovo should form the army with constitutional changes, even when the hearing for the package vote of bills for the military was scheduled, Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said Kosovo would bear the consequences for this hasty step.
This step comes at a wrong time, is contrary to the recommendations of many NATO allies and could have serious consequences for Kosovo's Euro-Atlantic integration”, he said.
While yesterday, when Kosovo only formalises the military, NATO's reaction came. It said that this decision was made despite NATO concerns as well as according to him, today's decision should not raise tensions in the region.
“Today, institutions in Kosovo have announced the adoption of three laws that initiated the transition process of the Kosovo Security Force. I am sorry that this decision has been made despite concerns voiced by NATO. While transforming the Kosovo Security Force is in principle an issue Kosovo decides, we have made clear that the move is wrong”, Stoltenberg said.
Despite this NATO opposition to the Kosovo Army, Serbia is calling it a spectacle.
It was Serbian President Aleksandar Vuciq who accused the United Kingdom and Germany of helping Kosovo establish a regular army.
“Today became clear that Albanians and their sponsors never wanted compromise, it is clear that the US and Great Britain were behind all their actions and that in relation to the Kosovo Army, Germany also played its own role”, Vuciq said.
Serbia now says NATO is only making a show of “opposition”, as it helps create the Kosovo Army itself.
