Authorities in parts of the Philippines and part of Indonesia have warned that the region could be hit by tsunami after the 7.2 - degree earthquake of Riterre. The quake most affected Mindanao Island in the southern part of the country, the second largest island.
The earthquake is expected to cause great waves at sea, so authorities have announced that the Geme and Tabukan Islands and the island of Davao in the Philippines may be hit by tsunamis. The Philippines Institute of Sesmology has advised residents to stay away from the coast and stay out of the water between 12 and 2 after midnight and until the danger passes.
The first predictions say the waves will not be higher than a metre compared to normal waves. The locals have said that they felt the quake because the walls of their homes are trembling.
The Philippines and Indonesia are often hit by earthquake and tsunami. More than two thousand people lost their lives in last September when the tsunami preceded a 7.5-degree earthquake in the Western islands “Sulawesi”, writes “Daily Mail”.
