American prosecutors have charged four people linked to the legal company, Mossack Fonseca, following scandal known as Panama “Letters” that had highlighted massive flow of financial data and legal documents that have indicated the existence of a global scheme to avoid US taxes.
In a statement on December 4th, federal prosecutors in Menheta have identified four people -- two Germans, one American and one Panama citizen respectively -- and have announced that three of the four people have already been arrested.
Among them is Harald Joachim von der Goltz, former U.S. officer and client of the Mossack Fonseca & Co legal company, who, according to prosecutors, was arrested in London on December 3rd.
Another man was arrested a month ago in Paris, until a US citizen was arrested in Massachusetts on December 4th.
The fourth defendant was a lawyer at the Mossack Fonseca company and now remains on the run.
Prosecutors have said that Mossack Fonseca, the company, which was closed earlier this year, has carried out US tax plots so as to preserve its wealth and client assets.
All four men have been charged with 11 committed acts, including conspiracy and tax fraud.
Panama's letters are a collection of 11 million classified documents that have been published by the German newspaper Suddeutsche Zeitung.
They are later divided with the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, which has begun publishing joint reports with other media organisations in 2016.
