KFOR Commander Laurenzo d'Addario has declared that there is currently no indication that something similar to that of 2004 could be repeated in Kosovo.
The “Many things have changed since 2004 and the overall situation has significantly improved”, he said in an interview for Serbian media.
Asked whether KFOR should disarm Kosovo's military and how it will react in the event of its deployment to the north, KFOR commander said its stance NATO is clear.
On the other hand, according to the official definition, the Kosovo Security Forces (FSK) are professional security, multiethnic, armed and uniformed forces subject to democratic and civilian control. Understandably, the KSF is neither the KLA nor an armed group of Kosovo Albanians, so in accordance with UN Resolution 1244 has no obligation for KFOR. Also, the transition is a long-term plan: nothing has changed in two weeks”, D'Addario said.
With the change of KSF mandate, NATO must review our level of co-operation with the Kosovo Security Force. For now, KFOR continues to work under the UN mandate, and laws on the transfer of KSF will not influence KFOR”, he added. /Periscopi
