KFOR spokesman Vincenzo Grasso has declared that the special ROSU forces have no obligation to ask permission from anyone to enter northern Mitrovica in contrast with the Kosovo Security Forces, whose move, according to him, should be approved by KFOR commander.
Grasso during an interview for the Serbian daily “Politika” has said KFOR is ready to protect all Kosovo citizens.
In question whether the forces of ROSU and those of the Kosovo Army can enter northern Mitrovica without their permission, Grasso has said Kosovo police can carry out their duties without asking permission from anyone, broadcast news.
“The ROSU Special Unit is a Kosovo police unit and as such has a mandate to operate throughout Kosovo, without obligation to request permission”, he said.
On the other hand, under the preliminary agreement, he has said the Kosovo Security Forces should have the approval of KFOR commander to engage in northern Mitrovica.
“NATO expects local institutions to continue respecting that” agreement, Grasso added, broadcasts news.net.
He stressed that the situation in Kosovo is under control, “against political tensions and statements in opinion”.
Grasso said KFOR is always in a state of readiness. “consistently monitor the situation and perform exercises, send troops across Kosovo so that we can maintain security and react quickly whenever it needs”, Grasso stressed.
He confirmed that NATO has secured commitment for 2019 and added that the mission would be continued in order to maintain the dominance of security in Kosovo.
