The wall on the border with Mexico promised by Donald Trump today triggered a powerful debate, in the presence of journalists, between the American president and the democratic leaders of Congress gathered in the Oval Chamber.
Threatening that it will go up to a “shutdown” (paralyse of some administrations) if the Democrats refuse to vote the financing of the disputed wall, Trump criticised that “border security should be an absolute priority”.
This is a difficult issue (...) we will probably not have an agreement today”, the American president stressed.
This meeting marks the beginning after the roadblocks on the budget law, due to be adopted on December 21st.
A failure to negotiate would bring a partial “shutdown” on the eve of last year's holidays meant paralysing a part of the administration.
