Etna explodes, over 130 seismic shocks, and air traffic jams

Etna broke in today by launching a large column of ash, forcing air space to be closed in the surrounding area, while the area around the Sicilian volcano was shaken by a series of small earthquakes. “The explosion occurred in Etna's arms, this is the first side explosion in 10 years, but it doesn't seem [...]
“The explosion occurred in the arms of Etna, this is the first side explosion since 10 years, but it doesn't look dangerous”, explained volcanologist Boris Behncke, of the National Geophysics and Volcanology Institute (INGV).
Because of lack of visibility, much of the air around the volcano was closed. At Catania Airport, only four aircraft per hour were authorized at noon today.
According to INGV, more than 130 seismic shocks have been recorded in this area since this morning, where the strongest was reached by a magnitude of 4.0 before Wright.
