Stop corruption, want justice, outside politics, down nepotism. Tetovo University students have expressed their dissatisfaction with the situation in Albanian-language higher education in Macedonia through protest.

Students of Tetovo University, who have also been joined by several groups of students from the University of “Mother Teresa” from Skopje and the University of Southeast Europe in Tetovo, have expressed their dissatisfaction with the situation in Albanian-language higher education in Macedonia.

Students during the prepass on Tetovo streets have kept banners, where they wrote: “Stop Corruption”, “Seek justice”, “United students are going to win”, “out of political parties, below nepotism”. Students completed the protest march in front of Tetovo University building, as they were not allowed access to the UT court by police forces.

Student Requests

Students have filed the completion of 13 requirements, including the lifting of the two-month practice fee, the reduction of the fee for foreign students, the removal of $100 for university reregistering, the ban on constitutionalisation of books for signing on the part of the assigned professors, the supply and renovation of halls, the labs and other necessary means for students, the student parliament to be independent of the reactor and political parties, the revision of academic titles and verification of plagiarisms, the impact of appointment of political teaching by the parties urgently released by the university, and the general university.

“We demand that political parties give up student parliaments”. “We have requirements that must be met without dialogue and without any other conditions. Without meeting our demands, we will not stop. UT is clinging to nepotism and politics”, students complain in protest. We have turned out to support our students, our children”, say parents who have participated in the protest.

The demands are very appropriate, I'm from a private university UYL's, based on their demands, they go to state universities, but we also have difficulties”, the other student says. I'm in the senior role today, and tomorrow I'm going to be in the student role, so I need these issues resolved as soon as possible and we have better conditions”, - another participant in the protest march said. Students have warned that they will continue their protest in the coming days.

UT: We are willing to listen to the voice of students

A press release has been issued from Tetovo University, stressing that there has never been a reluctance to hear the voice of students and that Tetovo University is of student youth and people. For any student concern, as long as we have had supported and enduring complaints, we have always taken appropriate measures and will always be willing to remain noble to this human, ethical and legal principle. UT is of the people and student youth and dares not become anyone's target, the less of certain interest groups. Any concern, discontent or revolt should be settled institutionally”, said among other things in the UT communiqué.

The Ministry of Education and Science in Skopje says it is carefully following the student demands it presented at the protest organised in Tetovo, even though in advance on official roads it has not been announced. She says she works hard to advance the quality of the educational system at all levels, including students and students, who are part of the processes for creating youth and economic policies, creating legal solutions and part of management and decision-making in the system institutions.
