The 690kg of pure cocaine contaminated in a 1kg package worth about 80m euros has been found hidden in a container carrying leather from South America to Italy.
The cocaine container has accidentally arrived at the warehouses of a leather factory in the Honeygedo municipality in the province of Vicenza.
He was the owner of this business, who informed the Italian police of this “illegal entry” reached his warehouses.
The container had entered Italy from the port of Livorno, traveling from Brazil through Portugal.
It is alleged that during his transit he was mistaken in distributing the count of containers.
Both the owner of the factory and the driver who has been shipping the container to the factory result in no connection with this international drug trafficking, the Oranews broadcasts.
This record amount of cocaine is alleged to be a link to organised crime in accordance with South American narcotics.
Italian authorities have estimated that this amount of cocaine would benefit 80m euros.
Italian police have launched an investigative process and are heavily reserved in providing information.
The port of Livorno from which it entered, and the cocaine container has turned into a crossroads of drug trafficking from South America towards Italy and Europe in recent years.
It also seems that it is no coincidence that the cocaine container has arrived in Vicenza's territory, known for drug consumption and a leather factory, where long ago cargo wet cocaine has been seized.
