Kosovo Parliament Speaker Kadri Veselini has been hosted today in Helsinki by Finland's Parliament Speaker Paula Risticko and other Finnish parliamentarians.
Praising the very good reports between our two countries, Chairman Wessel thanked President Risticko for the support Finland has given Kosovo in the statehood process. The two mayors stressed the need for deepening co-operation between Kosovo and Finland, in particular in the field of economy and education.
Wessel, accompanied by Parliament Deputy Speaker Aida Derguti, spoke with particular emphasis on the visa liberalisation process for Kosovo.
In this context, he also called for support from Finland for the visa-free decision to be made as soon as possible this year and for Kosovo citizens to be allowed free movement like all other peoples in Europe.
We have met the criteria set by the EU for this process. We are constantly making progress in many areas. With great commitment, we are working on many reforms that accelerate the European agenda. Our citizens do not deserve to remain the only ones left in the isolated Balkans”, he stressed.
Parliament Speaker Kadri Veselini called from Finland to support Kosovo for membership in Interpol, as an extremely important step for the fight against organised crime and terrorism.
Speaking of the process of the final phase of dialogue with Serbia, Chairman Veselin voiced Kosovo's readiness to continue the dialogue and that the sooner there is an agreement between the two countries, which would eventually normalise reports, taking place mutual recognition and co-operating with all other countries in the Balkans on the European agenda.
For its part, Finland's Parliament Speaker Ms Paula Risticko praised the progress made in Kosovo and stressed Finland's readiness to deepen co-operation with Kosovo. It confirmed support for Kosovo in the visa liberalisation process, membership in Interpol, but also in other integration processes.
Rysikko stressed that Finland is interested in supporting Kosovo in the field of economy and education.
