Accidents at Lake Victoria are quite frequent, most of which occur because of overloaded ships. “Ania was overloaded and the weather was bad”, said police spokesman Patrick Onyango. More than 20 people have been rescued from the water, but an indefinite number still remain on the list of the missing.
The families and friends of the sink gathered on the shore of the lake. They followed the rescue teams, extracting troops from the water. Family members shouted and cried because some of them knew the bodies. Police distributed personal items to the bar so family could identify victims. The ship was used for hosting holidays over the weekend. Many of the people on board had no life jackets.
Two fishing ships were also engaged in human salvation, but they too were overloaded and sunk. Lake Victoria is larger than Switzerland and is the largest lake in Africa. Its surface belongs to three states: Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania. About 30 million people depend on its resources, writes “BBC”
