The Russian Defence Ministry announced that Igor Koobov, who became the target of US sanctions for his role in Russian election interventions, died last night “after a prolonged and serious illness,” words usually used in Russian to imply cancer disease. He was 62 years old.
The United States and their allies had accused the agency of running Mr. Koobov of hackering during the 2016 US presidential elections, as well as of assaulting Sergei Scripal, Britain's former Russian residence staff.
The Kremlin has dismissed the accusations, naming them as a slander campaign from the West. /voa
