Qala: We failed Interpol because of politics, not police

Kosovo Police Director Rashit Qalaj, after Kosovo's failure to be admitted to Interpol today, has stressed that what happened at the Interpol General Assembly has nothing to do with the police field, but has to do with politics. I think it has nothing to do with the police field, [...]
I think that it has nothing to do with the police field, but it has to do with politics, or I say more, because in most of the delegations we have after the talks, I and the technical team that the municipality is leading, most of the delegations have said that we have no position yet from my country, we still have no political stance from the foreign minister, the minister of the interior, from governments, which should not be”, Qalaj said.
Even though Kosovo has failed to become part of Interpol, he said they are happy to have had the support of all democratic countries.
He also said Kosovo police will be part of Interpol, as they will make efforts to be part of it next year.
“actually not only has Kosovo Police, the state of Kosovo, lost Interpol as such, since Kosovo Police are able technically, professionally to be part of this, to contribute to overall security in both the region and the globe. I consider Interpol too much needed, for Kosovo Police to be part of it”, he said.
He has claimed that considerable work has been done by the technical group, which has been in the process.
The technical group has been comprised of both the Kosovo Police and the Interior Ministers and the Foreign Ministry, ambassador, civil society, parliament and all of us have worked as a team. Everyone has made an extraordinary contribution, there has been extraordinary commitment, they have been like a very disciplined group, but unfortunately, I still consider the decision made at the General Assembly today, more to do with geopoliticalism than with police jobs”, director Qalaj said.
Kosovo today failed to become a member of Interpol after failing to get the necessary votes -- of 2/3 as required -- for a state to become a member of the global police organisation.
